Christchurch Earthquakes of Sept. 2010 and Feb. 2011

Christchurch is Permacrib's single biggest domestic NZ market. In the aftermath of the devastating earthquakes of 4th September 2010 and 22nd February 2011 Permacrib conducted a comprehensive photographic survey of all known Permacrib walls in the city. Despite the "1 in 2500 year seismic event" the vast majority (i.e. 95%) of the 80 Permacrib walls surveyed suffered no significant structural damage. This was in sharp contrast to the widespread destruction of other retaining wall systems, structures, roads and buildings throughout Christchurch. A DVD copy of our photographic survey is freely available on request.

Permacrib's seismic performance results from a fortuitous balance of rigidity and flexibility that has proven exceptionally resilient to extreme seismic events. As a result Permacrib is now playing an increasingly significant role in residential and commercial re-construction in Christchurch.

The photographs on this page were taken after the February 2011 earthquake, for more Canterbury photos - see here
